Who were James White's parents?

The tree says James White (born 1837 at Carrowhugh) was the son of James White and Bridget Hegarty, a couple from Quin, County Clare, at the other end of Ireland.

That link is very probably a mistake that came in from another person's tree:

• The Clare couple's other children were born in Clare, Sligo and Kildare, and some of them died in Australia. None of them has any connection to Donegal.
• The Carrowhugh Whites were Church of Ireland. Hegarty is a Catholic name from Clare. Record
• In 1857 the White on the Carrowhugh holding was a John White. Record He is the likely father.

How to settle it: the marriage of James White and Mary Burnside, about 1858, should be in the St Finian's (Greencastle) Church of Ireland marriage register, which runs from 1845. A marriage entry after 1845 names both fathers. The register is on microfilm at PRONI (MIC1/138) and indexed on rootsireland.ie.

Fix in the tree: once the marriage is found, detach the Clare parents and attach John White.
